Alas, I am on the east coast of the US. However, a tea-master held an info session at the Cherry Blossom Festival this spring and I learned a little about Sen no Rikyu and the Japanese ritual of tea. It was fascinating, the depth of the service of tea.

scribe sky,  you are in luck!  One of the major Urasenke (my tea school) centers is in Northern Virginia.   Here is the link:   Urasenke DC.  Please call them and tell them you are interested.  I am sure you can observe a class or attend a demonstration.  Good luck and let me know how it goes.
